Then the real magic happened around here. The first part, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone was published in 1997, and it became a hit right away. It was translated into many languages and sold over 500 million copies, which blows my mind. Which is quite an incredible thing, when J.K. Rowling became a billionaire as a result of it. But even more than that, she didn't give herself this giant fat paycheck — a lot of it went to charity. She contributed to groups dedicated to assisting parents, those with MS and children in need.
